Paint
The Paint mechanic applies colors to your board’s slots to give them ongoing effects.
Paint changes a slot visually, applying the color and giving it a bonus +1/+1 slot buff.
Colors and Effects
Paint has three primary colors: Red, Blue, and Yellow. Red and Yellow affect characters on their slots, growing their abilities every turn. Blue rewards you for playing spells.
- Red slots
- Buff character abilities here by +1 Attack each fight.
- Yellow slots
- Buff character abilities here by +1 Health each fight.
- Blue slots
- When you cast a spell, give this slot +1/+1.
Painting another color creates secondary colors, which combine and improve those effects.
- Orange slots (Red + Yellow)
- Buff character abilities here by +2/+2 Attack each fight.
- Green slots (Blue + Yellow)
- Buff character abilities here by +2 Health each fight. When you cast a spell, give this slot +2/+2.
- Purple slots (Blue + Red)
- Buff character abilities here by +2 Attack each fight. When you cast a spell, give this slot +2/+2.
Be careful, as paint cannot be removed or changed! As a rule, each slot only takes two colors — re-applying a color or painting the third only gives the bonus slot buff with no other effect.
Some cards break that rule, however, combining all three colors into Rainbow slots with more powerful effects!
Deckbuilding with Paint
Most characters that enable or care about Paint are collectible. If you play these characters in your deck (or play a Paint-based captain), Paintbrush spells — which paint a slot their color — can appear in your shop.
Paintbrushes are only added for the colors your cards care about — if only Red and Yellow (or Orange) are referenced, the Blue Paintbrush will not appear.
Notes
- Some cards’ abilities care about the color of their slot. For example,
BaBaBanana is only active on a Yellow slot. Secondary-colored and rainbow slots count as all their colors. - Paint’s bonus +1/+1 slot buff is part of the mechanic’s effect. Spell-buffing effects do not make Paintbrushes give a larger bonus.
- Paint was introduced in Galaxy’s fourth set, Chromaria.
